Anchorage Yoga Studios

Deha Yoga

dehayoga.com

What style/styles of yoga do you offer?

Deha Yoga offers a variety of yoga styles! We have more active, movement-focused practices like Vinyasa and Foundations, and we have more passive, relaxation-focused practices like Restorative, Yin and Yoga Nidra. The full list and class descriptions can be found on our website.

What makes your studio unique?

Deha really specializes in slowing down, tuning in and getting quiet. The majority of our offerings & classes are focused on reversing our busy, action-packed days – we love to lay on the floor, close our eyes and let our whole body soften. This gives us the opportunity to pay attention to what lies deeper, beneath our busy minds. Deha has soft lighting, all the yoga props you’d ever want, and a quiet, beautiful place in which to relax.

How does your studio impact your community?

It’s truly a sacred space filled with good vibes. We are all on this wild ride of life and many of us experience discomfort, pain, loss, depression, loneliness, fear…. Deha is like a safe, second home. We can put our guards down, let the breath, body and mind truly release and give ourselves space to process whatever it is that holds us back from really shining.

Anchorage Yoga

anchorageyogacycle.com

What style/styles of yoga do you offer?

We offer a variety of Yoga classes from vigorous Hatha (vinyasa) to Meditation. Honestly we have a little bit of everything because we believe that everyone needs a little bit of everything. Some days are more stressful and require pause, so Restorative Yoga might be the right fit and other days we may need to be reminded of how strong we are and a Hatha class is perfect for that. We like to think of ourselves as a learning center because we offer more than just yoga classes, we offer courses, seminars, and trainings. Our mission is to ELEVATE, EDUCATE, and INSPIRE our community.

What makes your studio unique?

We are the only facility in Anchorage that opens their doors at 5:30am, offering classes throughout the day until 8:30pm, 364 days a year. We have some teachers who have been instructing for over twenty years, bringing with them not only experience, but in-depth education. We are a family and everyone who teaches or works at Anchorage Yoga is passionate about being of service to the community. I truly think we are one of a kind in Alaska!

How does your studio impact your community?

Its difficult for me to answer this question as the owner… I never really look at what kind of impact we have had in the community because I am always focused on what else can we do to better serve our community. If I speak from the experience of our clients, I would say that Anchorage yoga has provided a safe environment for people to heal, re-claim their power, renew their faith, make sustained change, overcome addiction, build meaningful relationships, and cultivate a meaningful and happy life.

Namaste North Yoga Studio

namastenorthak.com

What style/styles of yoga do you offer?

While we are a studio deeply rooted in traditional practices, we also understand that we live in an environment that is way different. That is because of the physical demands of careers and lifestyles. Even our climate with seasons and changes in daylight has an impact. This can lead to certain patterns in our bodies and minds that are not efficient and supportive for healthier living. Therefore, we do tap into traditional Hatha yoga, Iyengar and Ashtanga but also bring in more non-traditional mobilization patterns and meditation.

What makes your studio unique?

Every studio will have a unique vibe to it. Ours is community (sangha) and celebrating the uniqueness of every individual that walks in the door. Just be “you.”

How does your studio impact your community?

We do our best to bring “awareness” about how we live in our community. During the year, we have dedicated days for raising funds for certain nonprofit organizations in town.  We also offer community classes which are half the price of regular classes.

Burn & Bloom

burnbloom.com

What style/styles of yoga do you offer?

I offer a variety of vinyasa, power, Buti, and HIIT classes. All the classes at Burn & Bloom are strength based with a very strong physical practice.

What makes your studio unique?

The vibe is unique at Burn & Bloom. Our community is so diverse and eclectic. When we come together for a class, there isn’t an ounce of comparison or criticism or judgment, just love and support. There are all genders, body types, levels. Everyone is welcome. You come as you are, grow as you need.

How does your studio impact your community?

In a larger, practical way, I love to give back and offer occasional donation based classes and all the proceeds go to different local non-profits. This summer I had a booth at Pride Fest to show the studios support as an ally and safe space for the LGBTQ community as well.

In a personal way, I have seen so many people grow and change and really bloom in their practice and personal life. Something magical happens when you give people the space to be themselves, push themselves and grow and become MORE of themselves. It’s not about me, they are the ones doing the work, I am just there to hold the space.

Open Space Yoga Studio

openspacealaska.com

What style/styles of yoga do you offer?

We celebrate diversity with a variety of weekly offerings: from hot flow, mindful slow flow, and ashtanga, to gentle, prenatal, and baby yoga.

What makes your studio unique?

We are the only “donation based” studio in town…building community is our focus and therefore allow people to pay what they can. We offer more than just yoga as well: meditation, children’s dance and music, tai chi, Bellydance, Zumba, Thai and table massage services, space use (where anyone can rent our studio by the hour to offer their own class or special event), and private lessons.

How does your studio impact your community?

To recap, we impact the community with nominal fees for space use, donation based classes, and regular charitable contributions to local nonprofits or silent auction fundraisers. We run on a policy of trust, inclusiveness, and warm but professional vibes. Our tagline is ‘Center for Community’ as the name “Open Space” suggests.

Innergy

What style/styles of yoga do you offer?

We offer all levels yoga, barre and cycling classes at Innergy. Our yoga classes are mostly hatha based with flares of vinyasa, Ashtanga and restorative. We have 7-9 different teachers that have received their training across the world. No matter what time of day you attend a class at Innergy you will find an instructor and a class that offers modifications of postures and flows to accommodate all levels.

What makes your studio unique?

So many things make Innergy unique, including our highly certified team of instructors that not only love teaching but love the community we have built. The understanding and application of anatomy and style in which our instructors can lead a class whilst offering modifications for all levels of students. And the community itself that fills the studio with their conversation, effort and laughter each and every class. We would not be the studio we have come to be in just over a year without those who choose to show up on their mats each day.

How does your studio impact your community?

Speaking specifically to yoga, Innergy is a light, hoping to show those who previously thought yoga wasn’t for them (for whatever reason) that it could in one way or another positively impact their life. Whether one comes to yoga for physical, mental, or spiritual benefits it is a very personal decision, we don’t push a certain belief or way of thinking but simply offer and hold space for each and every student that chooses to share in a class at Innergy.

How does your studio impact your community?

Yoga Om’s mission is to build strength, skills, and mind, body, and spirit strategies to overcome daily life’s stress through mindful movements, education, and training. We are the sanctuary and community for people who need a break, who want to get out of their busy minds and into their body to deepen or start their connection to self as well as develop connections with other people. Sonia Auld and the staff of teachers at Yoga Om try their very best to keep this mission alive, so eventually we get the ripple effect of the practice to the community, one student and one breath at a time.
